Chandrayaan-2 will be launched on July 15, 2019 confirmed ISRO Chairman K Sivan on June 12. Chandrayaan-2 will comprise three modules, an orbiter, a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan. The orbiter will have eight payloads, while the Lander and the Rover will have three and two respectively. While the Orbiter, which will have scientific payloads, would orbit the moon, the lander would make a soft landing on the moon at a predetermined site and deploy the Rover.
Thawarchand Gehlot, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, has been appointed as the new leader of Rajya Sabha. The position was previously occupied by senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley under the first Narendra Modi-led government. An experienced parliamentarian, Gehlot represents the Dalit community in the Bharatiya Janata Party. The ruling party has the responsibility of appointing the Leader of the Rajya Sabha.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli is again the only Indian in the Forbes 2019 list of world’s highest-paid athletes. The list, announced on June 11, 2019, is topped by Argentinean football star Lionel Messi. Virat Kohli is ranked last on this year’s Forbes list at the 100th spot, down from last year’s 83rd rank, despite an increase of $1m in endorsements. According to the Forbes 2019 list, Virat Kohli earned a total of $25m in the last 12 months, including $21m through endorsements and $4m from salary and winnings, making him the highest paid Indian athlete.
The World Day against Child Labour is being observed across the world today, on June 12, 2019. The theme of the day this year is, ‘Children should not work in fields but on dreams’. This year, the International Labour Organization is celebrating 100 years of advancing social justice and promoting decent work. The day looks towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 8.7 set by the international community calling for an end to child labour in all its forms by 2025.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Vayu formed over east-central Arabian Sea at 11:30 pm on June 10, 2019, centered about 460 km north-northwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep), 540 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 690 km south of Veraval (Gujarat). It is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours and move northwards and hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva.
