Hong Kong airport, one of the busiest airports in the world was shut down recently, following mass protests that turned violent with two men being detained, harassed and assaulted for long hours by the protestors.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry launched the Swachh Survekshan 2020 (SS 2020), the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey. The Swachh Nagar Mobile App was also launched on the occasion. The app features tracking of waste collection by ULBs through route and vehicle monitoring, notification to citizens, online collection of user fee for waste collection and an effective grievance redressal mechanism.
Union I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar released a music video titled ‘Watan’ on August 13, 2019, ahead of 73rd Independence Day. He said that the video will add ‘colour’ to the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. This patriotic song ‘Watan’ has been produced by Doordarshan. Watan has been sung by renowned Bollywood singer Javed Ali and written by lyricist Alok Shrivastav and music composed by Dushyant.

The protests had begun in Hong Kong in early June over concerns regarding a bill that would allow individuals to be extradited to mainland China. The proposed law has been suspended.
US President Donald Trump stated recently that India and China are no longer “developing nations”. Trump stated that both India and China are taking advantage of the developing nations tag given by the World Trade Organization and he will not let it happen now. Trump said that the two nations are not growing but they have grown and warned that the US will not let such countries take advantage of the WTO.
