6 English Chapter 1 A Tale of Two Birds

Chapter Notes and Summary
In a forest there lived a mother bird with her two new born baby birds. There nest was located at top of a tall tree. One day, there was a huge strom. tree in which they lived fell down. nest was broken and mother was killed. strom wind blew two little binds away from each other. One of them landed near a cave of robbers, whereas, other one was drifted near a place in forest whre a rishi used to live. Thus, they were separated from each other.
As days passed, both baby birds turned into adult birds. One day a king visited forest to hunt. He saw a deer and chased it deep into forest. king followed deer for a long time and lost his way.
He ended up at other side of forest. Since he was tired, he got off his horse and took shelter under a tree, which was near cave of robbers. Suddenly he heard a voice. It said, it was cave of robbers. It was voice of a bird. It invited robbers inside cave to come and rob king of his jewels and horse. king was alarmed. He quickly got on his horse and rode away as fast as he could.
In some time king arrived outside rishi’s ashram. He tied his horse to a tree and sat down under its shade. Suddenly he heard voice of another bird. It welcomed king to ashram, and asked him to go inside to drink cold water and make himself comfortable.
The voice that king had heard was similar to that of first bird. Infact, they both were brothers.
The king was amazed. In mean time, rishi arrived. king narrated whole story of two birds to him. rishi explained to king that bird who lived near robber’s cave, behaved like them, and bird who lived near ashram behaved in a civilized manner. After all ‘one is known by company one keeps.’
